With reference to paragraph 3 of your
despatch No.316 of the 24th.September, I have the honour to
inform you that in the circumstances I have thought it ex-
pedient to wait until the Estimates for 1902 are being pre-
pared before asking the Legislative Council to vote funds
for the provision of married quarters for the Gaol Staff.
If however, any cases demanding special consideration are
brought to my notice by the Captain Superintendent of Police,
I shall consider whether it might not be advisable to grant
a temporary house allowance pending the completion of the
larger scheme.
